Mario Leon Cortez was born in 1979 in Chichicastenango, Guatemala into a Mayan family whose interest in art dates back four generations. He has dedicated himself to Mayan Art for much of his life, producing paintings and ingravings on leather, wood, and canvas ( see photos below).
